Te Papa Museum
Te Papa Tongarewa, the museum is the pride of New Zealand. People visit the museum as it has so much to offer, finding new things every time. There are interactive displays which provides an experience of information and fun.
The many permanent displays include Awesome Forces, Mountains to Sea, and Bush City, all about New Zealand's unique geology and natural environment.
Lord of the Rings
Wellington is the base of the recent ‘Lord of the Rings' trilogy of films. May scenes of the films were located in and around Wellington. The Director of the film, Peter Jackson also belongs to Wellington and his production company also located in this city.
Harbour, Beaches and Walks
Wellington has very nice harbours to visit and we can also enjoy water sports in those harbours. There are many beaches to enjoy the outdoors. Oriental bay is in the walking distance from the central Wellington.
It has a pretty waterfront, perfect for a stroll or a jog.
There is another beach called Lyall Bay, which is great for surfing, swimming and boogie boarding.
Also you can take a walk through Otari-Wiltons Bush garden and the Karori Sanctuary. Quite unique places with native bush and rare wildlife.
Festivals and Arts
Wellingtonians always seem in for a party. It is only because, there are so many festivals like the New Zealand festival and the Fringe Festival, the Cuba Street Carnival, the International Festival of the Arts and the International Jazz festival. People come from all over the world and join the festivals. You can get the agenda of the festivals from local newspapers. There are also will be posters around the capital to announce the happenings in the festival.
Wellington is also rich in museums and galleries.
